Default Master Dungeon Guide/Hero's Handbook. Filling in Previous events.

There are conflicting reports on this in fansites and from anyone I ask in game. I'm currently filling out a master dungeon guide (norn track) and know that I've done several dungeons without creditting them for another guide on that character. Fansites say that for a fee, the norn storyteller should let me fill them in, though I completed them previous to getting a master dungeon guide. However, in game, this is not the case. I get no option to do this through any button in conversation with him. I've done it before on the same character with the hero's handbook a long time ago, back when Eye of the North first came out. I know it can be done.

What's the bottom line on this?

(Yes, I used search. I found nothing of help.)

I seem to recall from somewhere the mention of 'once' and handbook...but I havent been able to find where. So you might be right that it can only be done once per account (which is silly...lots of people have more than one character in eye, ok only a few people now since most people have given up on playing multiple characters---and if this is the case I can understand. However, I missed the start up event so I dont know how it was handled at the begining).

That last statement is actually completely false, I have actually made it through both NM and HM dungeon master's books on 3 other characters and I am just stuck on this one. many more people would be complaining about this problem if it was preventing multiple completions per account.

But did you pay the NPC to fill out the ones that you did prior to recieving the handbook? (Note, you will only get credit for the ones that you did NOT get credit for in previous books.)

Hmm, no. That is actually most likely the point that this is hanging on, I'd like to get some more people into this and hear if they are having problems as well.

That's the discussion at hand. Is paying the NPC for filling in your book with previously completed (non creditted) dungeons a one time use/event, or is this some sort of bug?

I seem to recall something about 'once' blah blah in regards to missing pages, but havn't found where it is yet.

Here's some other stuff I found:

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Hero%27s_Handbook
'Notes' section at bottom of the link.
Quote:
If you have more than one Handbook in your inventory, each entry will be added only to the first Handbook in your inventory. If the first book in your inventory already has an entry that is repeated, that entry will not be added to any book or enabled to be written in. To get around this, shift the books around in your inventory so the book without the entry is first.

Hero's Handbook and Master Dungeon Guide

* Pages acquired for missions completed without a Hero???s Handbook in your inventory can now be added to a Hero???s Handbook. The cost is 100 gold per missing page. Similarly, pages for dungeons completed without a Master Dungeon Guide in your inventory can be added for 100 gold per missing page.

Some of my characters have the option available to fill it out, some don't. I have not used the option on any of my characters, ever. Either it's a bug, or there's some factor that I'm missing.

I couldn't fill out the pages I missed from doing the Sneak Preview event. I put off doing it because I started focusing on another character than the one I used primarily in the event. I ended up re-doing the quests.

I don't know if they've discontinued it or it is some sort of bug. I haven't tried with any other characters, they've always had their books.

The option to refill the pages by paying a fee was removed in an update quite some time ago. Whether it was intentional or a bug I have no idea.

I was under the impression that you could only fill it in once per character.

While that's probably true, Rothaga. It seems to have been removed from the game entirely. I've never used the option and don't have it available to me. I have a feeling it was only in for a limited time for preview-goers to get their chance to fill out what they already did. Unfortunately, I did not take that chance. :-p

I think evenfall is right, it was removed (intentional or not?) but I cannot find any mention of it in the wiki update notes or wiki pages about the books.

Again, we have conflicting reports here. We need Gaile to enlighten us.

Make certain that you have actually met the requirement of completing the needed quest/dungeon either on Hard Mode or normal mode for the desired character and that you have not already handed in a completed book, or a partial book since you last did the quest/dungeon.

Once you hand in a book all stats seam to be reset to 0(save for the hero book that comes with 5 entries) and you must do them once again.

Part of the confusion seems to come from a mis-interpretation of 2 related things.

AFAIK, back when EotN first came out, the rewards for completing the books were quite small. I forget how small, but something like 2500 attribute points for a completed book. When they later increased the rewards to their current levels, they gave people who had already turned in a book, the one time option to fill in all the pages for a small fee.

This is not the same as the ability to fill in pages for missions/quests you do while not having a book in your inventory. This is only on a "per page" basis, and does not fill in "all" pages". Whether or not you can still do this, I don't know. Also, it may depend upon if have gotten a book, but it's just not in your backpack.

So, if you turned in any books before the increase in rewards, you may get the one-time buy-out. If you haven't, and from now on, you only get the option to pay for individual "pages" that you have actually done. (Unless the option has indeed been removed in an update.)

I never turned in a book prior to the increase. I have had the option to fill in pages on my warrior, ele, and paragon but never took the option. I have not had the option on my monk or necro (for my monk I tried to fill in 3 pages, for my necro, I tried to fill in the entire book). It appears to be random to me for which of my characters can or cannot fill in pages (or, like I said before, some criteria I fail to understand).

At the time when I tried to fill in the pages on my monk, I thought perhaps I couldn't because I had recieved the book and started it during the preview event and before the change and since I was trying to fill it in after the change, that maybe my old book was just "bad". I just redid the missions and handed it in. However, I started my necro's book well after the change and had the same problem.

That is incorrect. I took this screenshot just now.

Since I have not taken the option to fill in any of the pages, I can't comment on whether it's a one time deal or not. All I can say is that some of my characters have the option and some don't, for whatever reason. I agree that comment from Gaile might be nice.

So now we have a screenshot. It may be dated, but for now, we'll assume that it was taken at this time.

We're still getting cross reports on this. I'm considering taking this to Riverside for more input, and perhaps confirmation from an Arenanet Representative.
